Konstantin Achkov graduated from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia with a master's degree majoring in "Sculpture" in the class of Prof. Krum Damyanov, in 2002. Since his student years, he has been developing his design works in parallel with sculpture. He also began to deal with the complex tensegrity structures where the solid elements do not touch each other, but are carried in space by a geometric network of tensioned ropes. For his developments and monumental works in the theme "Fish" and "One Horsepower", he received the recognition of the creator of tensegrity himself, Kenneth Snelson. Another long-term research of his, for which he received international awards and recognition, is the creation of self-locking furniture puzzles. With them, all the elements from which they are built are cut from one sheet of material. With his works, he participated three times at the Venice Design Biennale and was twice a finalist in the recycled plastic design competition of the Rossana Orlandi Gallery. With an engineer and illustrator father and an art critic and artist mother, Konstantin Achkov was simultaneously interested in the world of art and the world of high engineering achievements. This passion for a meaningful symbiosis of the technical and plastic in the creation of a work is always leading in his pursuits. The challenge of creating a memorable and seemingly impossible art structure that is well thought out from an engineering point of view is what he pays the most attention to in his work. A clear plastic sign and a clear structure in one are his principles when creating a work of art.
